Scripture: “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” —1 Peter 5:6–7 (NIV)
Devotional Thought:
Life has a way of placing weights on our shoulders—some we can manage, but others feel far too heavy. Worries about the future, unanswered prayers, the pressures of work, family, and even ministry can pile up until we feel crushed. But here, Peter reminds us of a two-step posture of faith: humility before God, and surrender to His care.
To humble ourselves “under God’s mighty hand” means acknowledging that we are not in control—but He is. It’s releasing the illusion that we must hold everything together and trusting the One who actually holds the universe in place. Then, we’re invited to “cast” our anxieties on Him—not gently set them down, but throw them completely into His hands. Why? Because He cares—not in a distant, detached way, but with a personal, intimate, and unwavering love.
When the weight feels unbearable, remember this: God’s mighty hand is not just strong enough to carry your burdens—it’s gentle enough to lift you at the right time. You may not see the “due time” yet, but His timing is perfect, and His care for you is constant.
Reflection:
- What burdens am I still holding on to instead of casting onto God?
- In what area of my life do I need to humble myself under His mighty hand today?
Prayer:
Lord, I lay my anxieties before You today. I admit that I cannot carry them on my own. Thank You for caring for me in ways I don’t always see. Teach me to trust Your timing and rest in Your mighty hand. Lift me up when the time is right. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Please share with your friends. Thanks. God bless.
